We can’t say there were many discernible trends on display at the 2022 SAG Awards, but there were plenty of ladies returning to a never-fail classic: The little — or not-so-little — black dress.

Fran Drescher in Reem Acra

We like the general style and shape of it, but we really aren’t crazy about the band and ruffled trim along the top. They both look a little cheap. In other news, she continues to be the only non-drag queen who can work a hair piece bigger than her head.

Hailee Steinfeld in Miu Miu

We’re never inclined to like belly cutouts, but when one is designed to make it look like the wearer’s bra is exposed, these prissy queens have to say no. That hair is doing her no favors either.

Laverne Cox in Michael Fausto

It’s a little on the tacky side, but she was working the hell out of it. We’re not sure if red carpet interviewers should be wearing gowns that pull focus from the people they’re interviewing, though.

Madeline Brewer in Emilia Wickstead

Sorry, but that top is ugly. We can’t wait for this current slick hair trend to die. It looks good on almost no one.

Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Row

Simple and elegant. We’d have rec’d a silver shoe and a necklace, though.

Naomi Watts in Fendi

The strappy things are a little weird and look like they’d be incredibly annoying to wear all night, but the dress is gorgeous. Love the high collar.

Reese Witherspoon in Schiaparelli

Leave it to Reese to find the least interesting Schiaparelli we think we’ve ever seen. It’s okay, but the length doesn’t work with that massive sash/train.

Rosario Dawson in Oscar de la Renta

We don’t love how poofy the bust is, but this is another look that could have benefitted greatly from a necklace. In fact, we’d have told her to go for less showy earrings in favor of some focus-grabbing neck piece.

Selena Gomez in Oscar de la Renta

It’s a gorgeous dress and she takes really well to a pair of massive shoulders. Again, we wish these ladies would stop sporting hairstyles that look downright painful. In other news, she fell out of her shoes on the red carpet and then did her onstage presentation barefoot, which is kind of awesome. Stunning neck piece.
