We actually debated whether or not this look was worth its own post. That may not be the most tragic thing you hear today, but it’s pretty sad when a big-time movie star at a Chanel Haute Couture show shows up in an outfit that’s cutely meh.

It’s cute. It’s meh. It’s cutely meh. We love the coat and the booties. The dress is both ugly and also the most interesting part of the look, which might explain why she seems to be deliberately obscuring it or playing it down as much as possible. We can’t decide if her history with Chanel (which has yielded a lot of cutely meh looks over the years) is notably unmemorable because she walks such a straight and narrow line in her style choices. In other words, her Chanel sister Kristen Stewart is generally considered one of the more interesting if not best-dressed celebrities in the world. But she also has a shit-ton of disastrous looks under her belt, many of them from the House of Chanel, who pays her to wear them. Margot’s very savvy about her career and image and has managed herself like someone who knows where the risks and pitfalls are. We wonder if she doesn’t deliberately try to keep her fashion as cutely low-key as possible just as a form of risk management. She wouldn’t be the first star to manage her image that way, but it’s rare for the blonde leading ladies to play things down like she tends to.

Anyway, good job on playing down the ugly dress and slightly silly purse, there, Margs. You got out of another one unscathed.
