Penélope Cruz has an Almodóvar film opening in Venice and if that’s not a good enough reason to break out the Chanel for a photo call, we don’t know what is.
We regret to inform you that this is the Chanel she chose to break out.
Putting aside our raging bias against fringe in its many forms (and this one’s got at least two of them on display), we think the main issue with this busy, fussy, awkward (not even the runway model could make it look good) ensemble is that it tries to combine the most basic and damn-near ancient of Chanel design elements with the kinds of showy, tacky or trendy motifs that tend to land looks on red carpets. In other words, it’s not the fringe, it’s that the fringe is trying to work with as basic a Chanel tweed jacket as you’ll find in any elderly socialite’s closet.
Having said that, her hair and makeup are gorgeous.
