Look, we understand if this might sound silly or far-fetched to anyone who isn’t weirdly obsessive about these things, but trust: Kirsten Dunst dis-embarking at the Venice Film Festival in head-to-toe Ferragamo is a clear signal that she’s looking to land on the awards track and ride it to the Oscars.
What a striking (and more important: photogenic) look. The jacket/shirt/skirt/belt combo doesn’t strike us as particularly real-world practical, but the overall effect has a very classic movie star feel to it, with just a touch of the ’40s, from the hair to the sandals.
If you are planning on getting off the gondola in high fashion (not all stars opt for it), it’s never a bad idea to be sporting wares from an Italian house, especially if you’re doing a little career dressing. She’s got a very important film premiering at the festival (the Jane Campion-directed Power of the Dog) and releasing just in time for Oscars consideration. Think of this as the opening salvo in her awards track promotional style blitz to come. She once lamented that most of her well-regarded work came without awards recognition and wondered if she failed to “play the game” somehow. So go on, girl. Play that game. We’ll cheer you on, for sure.
