Honestly, we have no idea we we’re so surprised. Of course Anya Taylor-Joy and her stylist Law Roach would take the opportunity of her Saturday Night Live hosting to put on the biggest fashion show possible. In retrospect, we were charmingly naive in thinking she’d wear a few tastefully fabulous ensembles and call it a night. No, these two came close to costuming an entire movie in between the sketches and musical numbers.
PHILOSOPHY DI LORENZO SERAFINI
Absolutely adorable. The almost drag-like styling turns a cute summer ensemble into a sort of character-based costume. They’re clearly using this opportunity to have some fun with the fashion and worry less about practicality or trends and more about theatricality and impact.
CHRISTIAN DIOR
Like so. Once again, we’d like to make the comparison to Audrey Hepburn, who had a similar way of really leaning into the more arresting qualities of her looks and playing them up with bold makeup and fashion choices. This is not a gal who’s ever going to stop emphasizing her large, wide-set eyes as much as possible. One of these days, we’d love to see her play around with a dark hair color for a while.
VIVETTA
Those boots are insane. Cher would look at those boots and go, “Damn, girl.”
COURRÈGES
There’s no way there weren’t pictures of Audrey on the mood board when these looks were being curated and styled. NO WAY IN HELL.
PETER DO
We love the old-school Hollywood glamour of the gown, but we think white is the least impactful color you could choose for her. This in silver or gold would’ve been a stunner.
MOLLY GODDARD
LOVE. It’s pure fantasy fashion, for which she’s uniquely suited.
DICE KAYEK
We’re not big fans of giant bows on grown women, but this sort of retro sexy-cute is in her style sweet spot and the black lends it a slightly more sophisticated vibe.
BRANDON MAXWELL
And a final swerve just to show you that your girl has THE RANGE.
And believe it or not, she didn’t stop there. More on her followup looks to come.
