The Bridgerton ladies hit the Met Gala red carpet and to no one’s surprise, they turned it out – to varying levels of success.
Simone Ashley in Moschino
It took us some time to come to the conclusion that we love this look not because it’s a great design, but because she’s so damn stunning in it. We do like the skirt. Because she never stopped wearing it that way, we have to assume the “coat” is designed to sit exactly like this, giving the look that “half undressed” feel. It’s fine, but the sleeves kind of bug and we really wish we could see it worn like a coat. We don’t mind the bralette but the pointillist nipples are silly. Hair and makeup are gorgeous, though.
Nicola Coughlan in Richard Quinn
We LOVELOVELOVE this look. We don’t think she’s ever looked more beautiful and it’s lovely to see her in a gown that actually fits and flatters her. Don’t come at us, Bridgerton fans. We know her costumes are meant to look that way for story reasons. It comes pretty close to a literal Gilded Age period costume, but the exuberance really sells it as a Met Gala moment. Her makeup is gorgeous and she looks like a romantic confection. On top of everything else, it feels really fun.
Phoebe Dynevor in Louis Vuitton
She always seems to go a little hard and edgy in her fashion, which makes a certain amount of sense if your claim to fame has you wearing delicately pretty and romantic Regency-inspired costumes. We can understand the impulse, but we really hate this dress. For something that bares that much skin, it’s dreary. Love the hair, but we don’t think the winged eye is for her.
