Our Cannes 2022 folders are filling up with looks we haven’t had the time or space to spotlight and more are coming in practically every hour, so it’s time to clear out our backlog to make room for the new stuff. It’s assembly line judging here at T Lo Industries, Ltd and the factories never close. Put your work suit on and meet us on the floor. Your shift is starting.
Coco Rocha in Vintage John Galliano
You can’t have a Cannes Film Festival without a bunch of models swanning about the red carpets, reminding everyone that they’re models. This is more editorial than red carpet – and we don’t think there are more than a half-dozen non-model celebrities who could pull it off – but that’s kind of the point of it. We could do without the spider legs, though.
Deepika Padukone in Louis Vuitton
Simple but stunning.
Emily Ratajkowski in Miu Miu
Simple but… kinda dumb. It’s lingerie with a men’s belt.
Peter Sarsgaard and Maggie Gyllenhaal (in Lanvin)
They look like their luggage never arrived and they had to borrow outfits from slightly larger people.
Idris Elba (in Gucci) and Sabrina Dhowre Elba (in Tony Ward Couture)
We’re not entirely convinced that jacket needed four buttons, but he looks pretty great. Her gown is pretty, but the sheerness bores us.
Naomi Campbell in Valentino Couture
That “bodice” is a terrible design, but she’s Naomi, which mean’s she’s making it work better than anyone else could.
Rebecca Hall in Prada
We love the sparkle, but the design’s a little drably retro and we hate the curve and craftsy quality of that band at the neckline and under the bust.
Sharon Stone in Dolce & Gabbana
Great color, but the slit’s too high/there’s not enough skirt to balance it out. Also, there has been an epidemic of what the drag queens call “cliffhangers” lately: toes hanging over the edges of a pair of sandals.
