We’ve still got one or two Cannes folders to clean out, since those international stars stubbornly refused to take the holiday weekend off like good Americans. Not that it’s a chore for us to check in on Miss Gemma’s contributions to the red carpet. We can’t say we’ve always been with her on her choices and preferences (in truth, she has a record of frustrating us a little), but she never shows up looking anything less than gorgeous and manages to add “interesting” to the mix more than a lot of stars do.

At the Mother and Son Premiere in Louis Vuitton

As much as we complain and whine about the ubiquity of see-through frocks on the red carpet, it’s hard to call this anything but pretty. Maybe it’s the gloves or the fact that the design is romantically old-fashioned. Maybe she brings a natural bearing to the panty-baring that elevates it somehow or maybe we’re just deluding ourselves. We still hate how often we see them, but this is one transparent dress that doesn’t bother us too much.

At L’Oréal Paris’ Lights on Women Event in Jason Wu

Ah, there she is. There’s that weird lady who likes weird fashion pieces we were talking about. All we’ll say is this: she really must have some sort of magical ability or supernatural poise to her, because this outfit is objectively, almost hilariously awful and she still looks amazing. It’s like that giant bag tied around her waist isn’t even there.

At the Closing Ceremony in Louis Vuitton

We suspect that, like fellow Louis Vuitton fan/muse Jennifer Connelly, she doesn’t particularly care about falling back on simple pretty or basic glam looks when there’s so much weirdness to be had out there. We respect that and we regret to inform her that, when she goes for rather conservative or traditionally glam designs like this one, she knocks it out of the park.
