Claire Foy and Paul Bettany will be seen tearing chunks off each other portraying those historical hot messes, the Duke and Duchess of Argyll in the second season of A Very British Scandal, dropping on Amazon Prime on April 22nd. They’ve been all over New York this week promoting it in semi-stylish looks (her more than him, but that’s usually the way of things).
We’ve always felt like she had a bit of a struggle defining herself through style. It seemed to us like she made the mistake of over-correcting the impression folks had of her from her work portraying a young Queen Elizabeth in The Crown by trying for a little edginess or doing the “fashion doesn’t matter” thing. This is fairly common among young British actresses who make their name playing upper class people in period dramas. But this is really great; a perfect way to come off modern, tamping down on the poshness and looking relatably stylish. We’re not convinced that the loose hair works all that well with it, but overall, it’s a great look for her.
Honestly? This is just okay, but it’s all really well-suited to him. We don’t love turtlenecks, as a lot of our readers might remember, but he’s definitely the kind of guy turtlenecks are made for. We also think those dark wash jeans look a little too circa 2011 to be considered stylish or on trend. We’re not sure if this is meant to be a public outfit, as in, meant to be worn for a press or public-facing event, so we won’t get too picky about his messy hair or the fact that the sweater looks a bit stretched out.
