Our long-dormant Red Carpet Showdown post is back and we’re kicking things into high gear with an epic BATTLE OF THE FASHION TWINKS. Both of these looks are great at challenging conventions regarding male presentation on the red carpet but to be fair, neither of them are pushing the envelope quite as far as someone like Lil Nas X has. Still, it’s great to see this kind of push happening at the Oscars, long considered the most conventional and conservative of all awards show red carpets.

Tom’s Pick: Timothée Chalamet in Louis Vuitton

T’s Defense: As we noted in our writeup, he’s showing far less skin than probably half of the women who walked that carpet. I don’t find the shirtlessness scandalous or problematic in any way. He looks fantastic and this suits him to a T. The hair, the lace and the jewelry give it a bit of a rockstar edge, but with a softly romantic undertone to it. No one but him could pull this off in quite this way.

Lorenzo’s Pick: Kodi Smit-McPhee in Bottega Veneta

Lo’s Defense: It’s simply a beautiful suit in a gorgeously unexpected color. With the oversized shoes and their woven texture plus the chain and the stunning watch, it’s a look that challenges conventions in the slightest, quietest sort of way and I think that’s what appeals to me the most. It’s beautiful and eye-catching, but it’s not obnoxious about it. It’s like it invites you to look instead of demanding that you do.

You’ve heard the arguments, now make your choice!
