Much has been made of the weird and icky feverish online reaction to Millie Bobby Brown turning eighteen – and rightly so, given the history of how teen girl stars are treated and covered by the press. For us it only means that we can look at her red carpet choices as more fully her own, instead of things possibly imposed on her by stylists, managers and parents. Not that there’s any sort of bright line or magical threshold being crossed. She’s always been a high-fashion girl who was more likely to dress like a Vogue editorial than a social media influencer, which is why her look for the BAFTAs isn’t too much of a surprise:
It’s terrible, of course. But girlfriend is clearly feeling it, so we’ll give her this one. It’ll be interesting to see how and if her style evolves over the next few years as she attempts to transition into adult roles. She’s coming at it from a very different place than someone like, say Elle Fanning or even Zendaya.
