We are feeling entirely too many feelings regarding Yellowjackets star Christina Ricci and the Batsheva dress she wore on Ellen. First, we smiled a little to see her return to a classic Ricci style without resorting to full-on Wednesday Addams cosplay. It’s a joy to watch her play an unhinged middle-aged nurse on Yellowjackets and her scenes with Juliette Lewis reveal the birth of a potentially legendary new comedy duo, but the poor gal has been stuck in the frumpiest wigs and costumes for the show. So, yes. Happy to see her getting to express herself through some more upscale fashion. On the other hand…

We’re just not big fans of the Batsheva aesthetic, even though it suits her in a lot of ways. We like the upper half, but the shape of that skirt is kind of frumpy. Of course no part of the design is helped by rendering it in a brown moiré satin, which is a textile more appropriate for funeral home draperies than dresses. It looks okay in the dim lighting of an Instagram post, but Ellen’s set is one of the least forgiving of the talk show sets. The pseudo-goth style suits her, but the fabric really doesn’t work. But her makeup looks great and we love the earrings.
