It strikes us that Kirsten Dunst’s clear style preferences for frilly, floaty romantic styles might be rooted in her role as Marie Antoinette, where she was practically drowning in the exact same elements she tends to choose for her red carpet appearances. The bust, yoke and sleeves here are very pretty and the lattice design has a very Versailles Chic sort of feel to it. Unfortunately, if you’re reading this and haven’t scrolled down yet, you now have to scroll down.

Oof. Talk about a letdown. While we wouldn’t have wanted to see her in a hoopskirt or pannieres, that bottom two-thirds feels like a total mismatch to the top. It drags the whole look down. The high-contrast Empire waist combined with the high slit and the ankle-length hem really skew the proportions in an unflattering way. She had a baby this year so of course having the option of a relaxed silhouette and waist is probably what she’d want right now. We just wish the bottom of this dress looked as great as the top does.
