And now a little bit of Janelle Monae, once again putting her own stylish spin on the classics. In fact, we’ll tell you right now, Miss Woman isn’t wearing one thing you haven’t seen a thousand times before. It’s just that she has a very Janelle-specific knack of making something seem fresher or more perfectly suited to her just by adding the right accessory or twist. You’d think a star invited to a Christian Louboutin party would pick a certain kind of shoe to go with her ladytux, but that’s the thing about Janelle.
She’s so good about subverting your style expectations in ways big and small. We’d never dream of recommending a penny loafer to anyone in a tuxedo, but somehow she’s making it look so appropriate that we wonder why we don’t see it more often. What a cute shoe. What a great way to show it off. She understood the assignment.
