She brought her spouse and he brought his girlfriend, but we thought it was much more fun to feature the Gyllenhaal sibs on the red carpet together, not just because Jake is there to support Maggie’s feature directorial debut The Lost Daughter, but also for a much shallower (yet perfectly on brand for us) reason:

Because they coordinated their outfits, in true performer sibling style, like a 21st Century Michael & Janet or Donnie & Marie.

We’re joking, of course. Granted, they do look nicely put together as a team, but they don’t strike us as the types who’d want to lean into that sort of sibling act imagery. One look at our coverage over the last couple of weeks and it’s clear that velvet is the textile of choice for the Fall 2021 red carpet set, so they’re likely just following the trends – which is ironic, because neither of them feel like trend-followers. His teal suit is gorgeous, although we wish he’d stop falling back on white t-shirts to complete his outfits. Her jumpsuit looks spectacular on her. She knows good and well that the best looks for her are essentially the hottest red carpet looks circa 1938-1946 and pants aside, this falls right into that style period.
