A real-live Elle “Women in Hollywood” party, darlings! We would normally take this occasion to marvel and wonder at the return of something that almost makes the world feel normal again, but honorees Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan and Salma Hayek all had to cancel because they were exposed to Covid at some point during their exceedingly brief Eternals promo tour (which is now going virtual and we can’t even begin to tell you how bereft we are over that news). Still! The lesson here is that GLAMOUR NEVER STOPS. We salute your bravery and thank you for your service, women of Hollywood. Now we’re gonna get mildly judgy about your outfits.

Alexandra Daddario in Christian Dior

We generally don’t love dresses that match skin tones, but the embroidery/embellishment here is really pretty and in an unexpected color story.

Ciara in Mônot

Well alright then, Miss Ciara. We tend to think something this sexy is more for the Grammys, but we don’t feel particularly dogmatic about it. It’s a dramatic gown and her hair and makeup look amazing.

Demi Moore in Schiaparelli

The chain and permanently hoiked skirt look like they would be annoying to wear all night, but she looks pretty great.

Gal Gadot in Saint Laurent

She’s probably at her best when she doesn’t complicate things. The color looks amazing on her but that askew bodice is really distracting.

Hailey Bieber in Miu Miu

Y’know, we’re always up for another round of Puritan Chic on the trend cycle every now and then. We love this, to our surprise.

Halle Berry in Dundas x Revolve

We think we like the idea here more than the reality. The sexy boho look is a great one for her, but we just can’t find the love for that print and we think the jewelry isn’t well chosen for it.

Jennifer Hudson in Ralph Lauren

The fit’s a little unforgiving and the shirt needed a cami or some sort of lining underneath it, but it’s a sharp look.

Jurnee Smollett in Versace

Meh. If you’re gonna wear a sheer black gown with panty action in this year of our lord 2021, it better be more interesting than this. It’s generic.

Kerry Washington in Ralph & Russo

It doesn’t look like she’s got much room to do things like walk or sit, but it’s a gorgeous gown.

Lena Waithe in Waraire

Just flawless.

Lucy Hale in Versace

We love the suit, but you’ve got to keep the styling interesting and energetic to keep it from going a little grandma in style. The bag and hair are missed opportunities to give this look some pop.

Mj Rodriguez

It’s a cute style, but we hate to say that it doesn’t photograph all that great.

Moses Ingram in Christopher Kane

We just don’t see how this isn’t totally bridal.

Odeya Rush in Magda Butrym

Aw, we’re feeling all nostalgic. We covered this exact dress several hundred times from roughly 2008 to 2012. The only thing different is the hem length, which strikes us awkward and the puffed shoulders, which work well with it.

Rita Moreno in Ralph Lauren

Have we ever mentioned that we interviewed Rita Moreno once, years ago? Even then we were floored by how incredibly friendly, sharp and insightful she could be. Anyway, bow down to a legend. Love your hair, darling.
