Not to be too shady about it (because yes, we are about to be at least a tiny little bit shady, if you want to be pedantic about it), we wouldn’t have thought Cynthia Erivo even knew how to dress for a red carpet without trying to be the center of attention. The lady’s default setting is “high impact,” so it’s kind of interesting to see her visiting someone else’s red carpet and how she interpreted the moment.

We’re a little surprised to say that we love it, although it’s almost entirely due to the styling. The dress itself is drab and funereal, with kind of a terrible shape to it. But the way the hat and boots pick up on the one point of interest – the plaid bib – is kind of genius. You almost don’t see the dress at all; just the more colorful and interesting parts of the look. She looks really cute, utterly herself, and not under the pressure of being at her own premiere. Well done.
