We’re way past the point where “pantsuit with a twist” feels like something fresh and new. We can’t remember the last time we featured one simply for being a fresh take on an old classic. And yet here comes Olivia Colman, strolling out onto the Venice Film Festival red carpet for the premiere of her film The Lost Daughter (directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal) in a custom Armani suit that clearly seems tailored to her preferences, delivering one of the more notable high-fashion serves of the week, in our opinion.

Her red carpet history demonstrates a clear preference for modest coverage and relative ease-of-wear. But she also seems to clearly like ensembles that are strange or envelope-pushing or unexpected in some way. She uses fashion to make a splash or produce an image (like most of the best and biggest stars), but she absolutely never wears anything that looks like someone talked her into it or put it together for her. She’s just extremely good at expressing herself in fashion, which might not be immediately evident when her choices tend to be relatively modest by Hollywood standards.

Anyway, the silhouette of this jacket is amazing and, combined with the gorgeous blouse and perfectly chosen shoes, turns a standard pantsuit into something Vogue-cover worthy.
