In case you needed to be mad at some clothes today.
We really love his gay Santa suit, actually. As for her imaginary dress (not to mention the somewhat unsubtle posing on their parts), if we rant and rave about it, we’re either assuming she has no agency or assuming she lacks the understanding of how to present herself appropriately. As fashion, it’s not the kind of look we tend to love, but for the VMAs red carpet and for her specifically, we can appreciate it for what it is. Sexy spectacle. Pure look-at-me-ism in action. Besides, it’s not like she’s the first woman to walk a music awards red carpet in a barely existent dress. Cher wasn’t too far off from this look nearly a half century ago. If anything, this has been done enough times that all it needs is one more high-profile wearer to be legitimately considered a classic red carpet look. There. Smoke on that.
