The Academy of Motion Pictures had its long-awaited gala opening in Los Angeles and to perhaps no one’s surprise, the night featured an explosion of stars serving looks on the red carpet. New York may have a lock on high-fashion events like the Met Gala, but when it comes time for movie star glam, there’s only one place to go for it. In other words, Miss Steffi is here to serve you barrels and barrels of old-school, high diva, big drag glamour.
And who can argue with any of that? She is gunning for that House of Gucci Oscar nom, we’re telling you. One thing for which she has to be given a lot of credit: her high adeptness at code-switching her stardom. She can go from campy to chic, transhumanist to eleganza, art school to opera house – and she’s only getting better at making those transitions as time goes on.
Our one crit (and we think it’s common when she’s doing the blonde movie star thing): she’s looking a bit too on the orange side of the color scale.
