So as we’ve been assessing the celebrity looks at the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda show in Venice (and silently saying prayers of thanks to the content goddesses as we do so, for bestowing Met Gala-level fashion on a public – or at least a couple of bloggers – hungry for such things). Our point remains that for so many stars, Dolce & Gabbana is a brand that can make them look like royalty or like goddesses – which is extremely handy in a profession that relies on impeccable branding. But Doja Cat’s serve here is reminding us of something else just as important about the brand’s aesthetic.
It’s interpretable. With a gown like this, you could go a very expected sort of Cinderella route on the styling – and to be fair, she is playing with certain aspects of that. But it’s also a look that allows for a little pop star attitude and theatricality. If you handed this gown off to Elle Fanning, she’d be serving Marie Antoinette realness before you could blink, but the earrings, shades, hair and manicure here (in other words, the styling) are all selling a pop princess realness that a Disney princess couldn’t pull off.
