Everyone loves Ted Lasso! Everyone can’t stop talking about Ted Lasso! We feel like we’re a little behind the curve on this one, since we only recently made the leap to adding Apple TV+ to our massive volume of streaming services, but we did catch the first few episodes and it’s cute. Now that it’s been nominated for a kazillion Emmys, we can see we’ve got some catching up to do. Anyway, the second season’s a go and the cast came out for the premiere, in various degrees of formal dress.

To be fair, we don’t think a show like this lends itself to a high-fashion press event. It would feel kind of odd given the nature of the show itself, not to mention that its star has always favored casual DadWear in practically every public situation.

On the one hand, we feel like she’s leading the charge on the predicted (but so far, not particularly evident) post-pandemic braless paradise. All the trend forecasters and style writers have been swearing up and down that a year of lockdown will cause a bra-free decade to unfold, but we haven’t seen much evidence of that among the celebrity set. We wish we could say we love the dress, but the leather belt-like thing is really poorly placed and the hem needed to be either two inches longer or six inches shorter. The proportions are way off.

Jason Sudeikis

Like we said, Cool Dad style is all you can ever truly expect from him and this is one of those times where we’d be out of line to suggest that it’s inappropriate. It’s his show and it’s riding a wave of success by offering up an unpretentious feel-goodism that suits the times. He’s earned the DadWear. And besides, the shirt is a really sweat and appropriate touch.

We love that she was all “Fuck being unpretentious. I’m GOING FOR IT.” From the hair to the clodhoppers, it’s a lot of look from only a handful of pieces. We’re not crazy about the dress/jacket hybrid and we know those shoes are going to be over-used on the celebrity set for the rest of this year, but we respect that she gave the photographers something to shoot, which is half the battle in red carpet style.
