And now it’s time to eat our broccoli. We’ll explain, but we make no promises that we’ll make any sense. The thing is, there are certain stars who are perfectly competent at the red carpet fashion game and don’t appear to need any advice on how to approach. Maggie’s the perfect case in point. She always comes off like one of those stars who plays the game when she needs to, but doesn’t take any of it too seriously. A smooth professional whose style falls somewhere near the Jodie Foster mode: classic pieces in very tight range of color options with a hint of glamour but a strong undercurrent of practicality. From a bitchy red carpet blogger’s perspective: like eating broccoli.
ATELIER VERSACE
This is definitely our favorite of the looks and we don’t think it’s a coincidence that it’s the only one in a color and the only one that feels remotely youthful. The pleating is gorgeous and we love the jewelry. The ear piece gives the look just a weensy bit of an edge.
CHRISTIAN DIOR
One big “meh” from where we’re sitting. There’s nothing here for us to love; not the non-colors, not the weird shapes, not the distractingly abrupt waist seam. It all might have worked if it were just a bit more vivid and sparkly, but right now, it just looks like she’s wearing a shower curtain.
CHANEL COUTURE
Another kind of meh look, although we appreciate the idea more than the execution. A white blouse over a big poufy black skirt could work, but we tend to think it needs to be a bit more tailored than that pajama top.
