Katy Perry always approached her public style as a form of cosplay, which is not a bad way for a pop star to approach fashion. For whatever reasons, she chose to serve a little bit of Cindy McCain drag followed inexplicably by a little bit of Monica Bellucci drag. We suppose you could say the girl’s got range.
ALESSANDRA RICH
We kinda hate this, if we’re being honest. First, it feels like a Chanel knockoff. Second, we think she’s approaching this as a fun take on a rather mature-in-tone classic, but the end result is more aging than fun. You can crop the top, oversize the pearls and put on some Barbie shoes, but it’s still pearls and a tweed pantsuit, girl. The only person who ever made this style look punk or youthful was Kristen Stewart.
And really, the shoes don’t go at all. They’re cute but way too focus-pulling.
DOLCE & GABBANA
This is a perfectly fine look, although we’d think one would need a damn good reason to wear something from D&G (not that anyone receives blowback for it) and this is kind of generic and not worth the weight of the label. It’s fine, but it just feels lack it lacks the kind of cartoon energy that works best for her.
