He gave one of the funniest, most intense speeches of the night, with the most direct appeal to social and cultural change on a night when social and cultural change was the Number 2 topic (the movies being the first, of course). He also had to deal with a journalist from the rightly beleaguered Hollywood Foreign Press association mistaking him for one of the actors in One Night in Miami and asking him about “the community.”
All of which is why we really hate to say it, but …
We just aren’t loving this. We don’t mind the style at all, but the fit is so far off that it makes an extremely expensive formal suit look downright cheap. Similarly, we don’t doubt that those shoes probably cost more than any pair we own, but they don’t photograph particularly well. We honestly think a super high-end pair of kicks would’ve looked better, although we’re more partial to either some sort of loafer or the heavy-soled clodhopper shoes that are swinging back in style. Looking over our coverage of him over the years, it seems pretty obvious that he doesn’t want to wear tight-fighting clothes, which is why we’d have waved him far away from a double-breasted suit if he’d asked our opinion on the matter. It’s not a cut that looks good with a loose fit.
