Darlings, because there was such a cluster of awards season activity over last weekend, we’re reaching back a bit further than we normally do for this week’s leftovers. The good news is, even leftover fashion is fairly interesting to look at when it’s trying to compete with the Oscars. All of these looks definitely rate a second look, so put your judgin’ pants on and let’s get to it.

Beyoncé in Balmain

It’s a Barbie outfit. We don’t begrudge her the attempt, though. She’s perfectly suited to this sort of fashion-doll style.

Cynthia Erivo in Gucci

A surprisingly conventional gown coming from her. This was for the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards so maybe she figured the night called for (her version of) restraint. It’s a beautiful look.

Dominique Fishback in Tony Ward Couture

Sometimes, a rising starlet just needs to get the Cinderella out of her system. This is perhaps a bit literal, but she looks very cute in it.

Gillian Jacobs in Simone Rocha x H&M

Haha. No, sweetie.

Julia Garner in Prada

She wore this to the Independent Spirit Awards and the fashion press seemed to go gaga over it, but we’re not all that in love with it. The dress is okay, but the hairstyle is matronly and the opaque tights with ankle strap heels is just about the most awkward way to style the look.

Keke Palmer in Dolce & Gabbana

We loved this look but skipped featuring it for its own post because it’s D&G. We’re just saying, stars and stylists.

Lucy Liu in Oscar de la Renta

It pains us to say this, because she almost never gets it wrong, but we really, really don’t like this ensemble at all. It’s oddly shaped and the textile isn’t pretty.

Renée Zellweger in Alexandre Vauthier

She has an extremely narrow range in her fashion choices, but we’re always impressed by how many variations within that style she’s able to find and work. This is nothing new, but she looks cute.

Storm Reid in Christopher Kane

Hmm. We love the boots, but we don’t think they coordinate with the dress all that well. And the longer we look at the dress, the less we like it. Seems a bit overdesigned. We love the kind of energy her style choices tend to have, but it feels like there are too many competing elements here.

Zoë Kravitz in Saint Laurent

She has a knack for making some fairly impractical and unwearable pieces work for her, but despite how fierce she looks and how hard she’s selling the look, there isn’t one piece here we like except for the earrings. Those shoes make her feet look like birds.
