Hmph. We would normally be fairly accepting of Carrie Underwood working her usual neutral-toned Country Barbie look because at this point, it’s practically a signature, if generic sparkle gowns could be said to have enough identifiable elements to constitute a signature.

 

 

And sure, this gets the job done. But we wonder if her recent attempt to make a colorful and slightly challenging Iris van Herpen creation work for her didn’t send her running back into the comforting embrace of her usual sparkle-beige aesthetic. Or maybe she felt like the Latin AMAs provided an opportunity for her to get a little wild while a more hometown setting asks for a certain level of branding. Whatever the case, this is nice and all, but that’s about all we can say about it. Girl, you didn’t ask us, but we’d rather see you fail in the attempt to make a van Herpen work than step out in another instantly forgettable gown that matches your hair.
